Botulinum toxin, or what many people know as Botox, is a substance extracted from a specific strain of bacteria. It is in the form of protein which has special properties: Can bind to nerve endings that control muscles. Then it inhibits the stimulation of the muscles that are fed by the nerves in that area. This causes the muscles in the area receiving Botox to be unable to contract and eventually relax. The effects of Botox are not permanent. After a certain period of time, it will disappear by itself.
Botox injections in each location use a different number of units and results will begin to be seen in 7-14 days. Each person may have a different amount depending on their skin problems. Post-injection care is another important factor that makes the duration of Botox last longer.
